He came to us due to being relinquished to GreenePets Foster Network, Inc. because of a broken home. The mom tried to keep Rex with her children, but when their living circumstances downgraded it became impossible. Finally things go so bad that she was going to be evicted if she didn't get rid of this hyper, nosy, destructive tornado they were living with. Anyone ever raise a Golden puppy with two children under the age of ten? Remember that first year?
Rex came to live at All Creatures Country Club's kennels May 24th. He is quite ecstatic here, because he gets to romp and play all day with like minded pooches. All things great and wonderful happen here. Well, that is if you don't put too much emphasis on bath time.
On May 29, Rex's new trainer arrived from Dublin, Ireland. Ronan applied for a live-in intern training position with All Creatures Country Club, and Rex's arrival couldn't have been better planned. God does work in mysterious ways.
Ronan will be leaving this Sunday, and Rex's training will go forward with Kat. In the meantime, Rex has learned many basic skills, and especially how to control himself around humans. We never seem to notice when an obnoxious behavior goes away, but I must admit that it has been a couple of weeks since Rex has forgotten himself and jumped up on me.
This is the beginning of Ronan's career as a professional dog trainer, and the raw dog/raw trainer relationship has been fun to watch. Ronan and Rex have both had to solve communication problems. Ronan has found there are many ways to elicit behaviors, and I think feels very satisfied when they have accomplished something new.
Rex is a little slow on the uptake right now, being only a year old, he is more teenager than adult, and keeping his focus as well as keeping him in the game has at times been a trial.
